Alive or Just Looking Alive?

Hold two plants—one real and living, with roots in soil, and one artificial plant that looks just as green but is made of plastic. Ask, “Which one is alive?” The answer is obvious—the real plant has roots and life runs through it, while the fake plant only looks alive.

The same is true spiritually. Many people may appear “good” on the outside—going to church, saying the right things—but without Jesus Christ, they are spiritually dead. Only those who have placed their faith in Him have true, eternal life. Just like the fake plant can never grow or bear true fruit, a person without Christ can never have the life that comes from God.

Scripture Verse (WEB):

“He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’t have God’s Son doesn’t have the life.” (1 John 5:12)

Reflection Questions:

  1. Am I truly alive in Christ, or am I just trying to look alive?
  2. What “roots” in my life show that I’m connected to Jesus?
  3. How can I help others find the real life that only comes through Him?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for giving me true life through Jesus Christ. Help me to stay rooted in You and to bear fruit that shows I belong to You. Keep me from pretending, and make my life a living testimony of Your grace. Amen.
